Organizations Assisting Victims of the Earthquakes
Volunteering: Volunteer opportunities in disaster settings are extremely rare and are usually limited to people with prior disaster experience and technical skills (such as health, engineering, etc.). For opportunities to volunteer overseas in non-disaster settings, visit serve.gov.
Other Contribution Options
Some rewards programs partner with charitable organizations to allow people to donate frequent flier miles, hotel points and other customer rewards. Check with your particular rewards program or preferred charity to see if it offers such a program and to obtain additional information.

A massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake has devastated Chile leaving over 700 dead and affecting millions. Earlier this year a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti killed over 200,000 and impacted millions. Americans are wondering how they can help, how to cope with, and how to help children understand and cope with disasters of such magnitude.

Bruce D. Perry M.D., Ph.D., the Senior Fellow at The ChildTrauma Academy, discusses the likely impact of the many traumas children coming home from the orphanages in Haiti have experienced. The webinar will help prepare families who are now awaiting or have already received placement under the United States' expedited program. PLEASE NOTE: This session is intended for those families who were in process of adopting from Haiti prior to the earthquake and are therefore receiving an expedited placement of their child. The Haitian adoption process itself as well as advice for those looking to start the process of adopting from Haiti will not be covered.
